Bioprosthetic Valve Degeneration

A tissue heart valve usually lasts about 10 to 20 years before it wears out - the leaflets stiffen, calcify, or tear. A worn valve can often be fixed with a valve-in-valve TAVR, with no open surgery.

This is a free, plain-language patient education guide written by Rias Ali, MD, FACC, a board-certified interventional cardiologist. Every guide is grounded in current peer-reviewed evidence and major society guidelines, organized in a way patients can actually use during a visit.
